If you’ve used Windows Live Messenger on Windows 7, you’ll probably notice that Windows Live Messenger minimizes to the taskbar instead of the system tray like in Windows XP & Windows Vista. So, the Windows Live Messenger icon always appears on the taskbar. However, there is a way that you can force Windows Live Messenger to minimize to the system tray like in Windows XP & Windows Vista.
To do this, you just have to do a little tweak with the compatibility settings for Windows Live Messenger in your Windows 7. This will make Windows Live Messenger to behave like in the previous version of Windows. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Make sure Windows Live Messenger is closed.
Step 2: Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Live then Right-click on Windows Live Messenger and select Properties
Step 3: In the Compatibility tab, check Run the program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista. Then click OK
Now, try running the application and then minimize it. It will minimize to the System Tray.
Beautiful! Thank you so much for this solution! It is much appreciated!
